70th Anniversary High Scorers’ Competition

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of ABRSM music exams in Malaysia, we're excited to announce a special High Scorers’ Competition!

Over 3,000 High Scorers will be invited to participate, with up to 400 medals and trophies to award. Events will take place across Malaysia's four main regions. A grand final will be held in Kuala Lumpur for the medallists of the Grade 8 and ARSM categories only.

What's the competition about?

The objective is to give even more High Scorers the opportunity to participate, work on new repertoire that goes beyond the exam requirements, gain valuable experience from performing on stage and seeing their peers perform, and be recognised for their musicianship and performing skills. All distinction holders from the 2018 Practical exams can enter the competition.

Dates and venues

Events will take place across four regions. You must enter for the venue that correlates to the states it covers (listed below). For any exceptions, you must seek permission in writing from ABRSM (see contact details at the bottom of the page).

  4. Please don't bank in cash when paying for the event! Payment options are via online banking/telegraphic transfer. MYOF will be collecting the funds on behalf of ABRSM.
  5. This competition is only eligible to High Scorers from Malaysia. High Scorers from other countries aren't allowed to participate in this event.
  6. Full payment must be made during registration to secure a place.
  7. Refunds won't be given should a participant withdraw from the competition after registration, where payment has already been submitted.
  8. Adjudicators’ decisions are final and can't be challenged. Marks awarded won't be disclosed, but an individual comment sheet is provided for each participant and general verbal feedback given to each category as a whole.
  9. ABRSM reserves the right to use all photographs and/or videos from the competition for future promotional materials.
  10. Participants aren't allowed to film the competition unless it's of their own child performing. This video must NOT be published online due to performing and composition copyright.
  11. It's the responsibility of the participants to arrive on time for their appointed competition round. Exact timings for the day will be published online and emailed to participants at least three weeks in advance of the event.
  12. A certificate of participation will only be given to participants who've attended and performed. Please ensure that all the names are spelled correctly during the online registration (including the teacher names). Certificate reprints will be charged at RM 10 each, including reprints of the letters of appreciation for teachers.
  13. All accommodation and transport arrangements are the responsibility of the participant – the organiser won't be responsible for arranging these.
  14. Please ensure to bring one copy of the music to the event for the adjudicators' reference. It's okay to provide a photocopied score for the adjudicators, but if you're playing with the music, you MUST play from the original score.
