Grade 5 Music Theory waiver (not applicable in the UK & Ireland)

We are extending our Grade 5 Music Theory waiver until 23 May 2021. This means that candidates with a Grade 6 to 8 Performance Grade exam submission date up to and including 23 May can take their exam without first passing Grade 5 Music Theory. We are making this exceptional arrangement to allow candidates who have been unable to take an exam in recent months to progress with their learning. From 24 May, the Grade 5 Music Theory requirement will return. For exam dates/exam submission dates after 23 May, all candidates taking a Grade 6 to 8 Performance or Practical Grade must first pass Grade 5 Music Theory.

Face-to-face practical exams

We have postponed the start of Session 2 practical exams to allow us to plan with more certainty and book exam venues in good time. We hope to open a booking period in June or July with exams between September and December, exact dates to be confirmed. However, we are keeping these dates under review as we can only accept bookings if COVID-19 travel and government restrictions are lifted. We will provide an update nearer to the booking period.

Performance Grade exams

We are pleased to confirm that we will be offering Performance Grade exams every month for the remainder of 2021. Please check here for dates and fees. We are extending the introductory 15% discount for these exams so that it applies to all remotely-assessed Performance Grade and ARSM exams in 2021. We inspire musical achievement

ABRSM is the UK's largest music education body, one of its largest music publishers and the world's leading provider of music exams, holding over 650,000 assessments in more than 90 countries every year. As a registered charity, we also make significant donations towards music education initiatives around the world.

Founded in 1889, we have a long and storied history. But our mission has stayed the same: to nurture a love for music, and to inspire achievement in it. At ABRSM, we believe that everyone, wherever they're from, should have access to high-quality music-learning.

Globally renowned exams and assessments

In partnership with four Royal Schools of Music, we support music-making and learning across the globe. We offer pathways and resources for learners and teachers that help build musical skills and encourage progress.

Our core activity is providing graded music exams, assessments and diplomas. An ABRSM grade has a worldwide currency and our exams are designed to motivate learners at all levels and ages, providing realistic goals and tangible rewards for their achievements.

And much more

We support teachers and learners with a range of award-winning digital resources and publications, as well as host events and offer professional qualifications.

As a charity, we invest more than £6 million in music education every year, all across the globe. We also work with organisations around the world, providing donations, scholarships and sponsorship.

Our partnership work is never one-off - we build long-lasting relationships and support ongoing projects. We advocate for music, playing our part to ensure the future of music education and its place in society. Working towards this goal for over a century means that we're a trusted voice at a boardroom table as well as on a concert stage.

Led by our Strategic Leadership Team and Governing Body, our staff members, examiners and volunteers work with passion and dedication to make learning music what it should always be: a joyous and life-enriching experience.
